Milestone 3 accomplished

Alright, a month has passed since the last milestone and it's time for an update. Milestone 3 was accomplished in about 27 hours. Therefore I should have finished it a bit ealier but some extremely warm weather and the FIFA worldcup have occupied some of my freetime last month. Well, I'm happy with my progress anyway and I'm looking forward to the next milestone. There's a significant twist in the story now and some very special panels have to be painted right at the beginning of milestone 4. I'm afraid, that from now on I won't be able to post a lot of panel artwork anymore. I want the second half of the first chapter to remain a complete mystery right up to the day when it gets published. However, this panel here was already shown as a layout so I guess it's ok to show it to you.

I want to thank you all for your encouraging comments. It really means a lot to me to get in contact with you through this blog and I'm insanely looking forward to the day when I'll be ready to share my work with you in it's completed form.

  1. Hi Daniel, I really can't wait for this! Are you going to be sharing this in the form of a webcomic where you publish a page every so often, or are you looking to publish a printed book? Either way, I'm game, I'm just curious.

Keep up the awesome work, I've been following your art ever since you posted "The Journey Begins" WIP.

  3. @ Riki:

The Wormworld Saga will be published as an online graphic novel which will be totally free to enjoy for everyone. I don't call it webcomic because I'm not going to follow the classic style of a webcomic (e.g. different pages with continuous updates at specific weekdays). I'm going to publish only comlete chapters because I don't want to tesselate the story too much.

    @ John Patrick Deza:

  6. Hi Daniel,
I've been watching your work for a while and nothing you create fails to impress me, truly inspiring stuff.

Is the graphic novel going to be printed? If so you have a day one purchase right here!

  7. @ Chris:

Yeah, the Worldcup is over. But we suffer from unbearable heat in Germany at the moment. I can hardly sleep let alone work.

    @ Shane:

Please check my reply above! It's going to be exclusively on the net and free.

  10. Hi Daniel, you might want to put a FAQ section on this site. I imagine you get a lot of repetitive questions like what I've asked, and what I'm about to ask: do you know how many volumes this story will have in total? :)

  11. @ Spikespine:

    @ Riki:

What I do know is, that the whole story is devided into three parts (a trilogy so to say). Currently I think that each part will consist of up to 15 chapters. The exact number of chapters I will only find out by writing them of course. But you see that I'm good advised to find a way to do this fulltime. Otherwise I might not live long enough to finish the story. :)

  12. Curiously, how much funding would you need to do it full time? I'm not sure if you know or not, but Jason over at reMIND used kickstarter.com and also the Xeric Foundation, and is getting a good bit of change to publish the book. Probably not enough to go full time, but might be a good start.

Around 15 chapters... well, I'll have entertainment for a good long while :D

  13. @ Riki:

I'm watching Jason's project very closely since he started the reMIND blog. It's really great to see that his funding strategy for the book printing works out.

I'm also working on ways for fans to support my project. It will all be launched on a dedicated website together with the first chapter. Kickstarter definitely becomes an option, I watch it very closely.

When the first chapter is finished I will have some robust data to estimate the effort and "cost" for a single chapter. I will also know how many chapters I would be able to complete in a year if I would be working full time on it. Then it's simply deviding my yearly expenses by the number of chapters. I'm really curious to figure out these numbers in the future.

Thanks for your interest and input!

I'm also happy you don't charge me for the many times I've had Wormworld images on my desktop ;-)

    Alles Gute
